Jumping The Broom!

It’s been just over a month since I said I do….Again! What possessed me you ask? It wasn’t only love. It was feeling for the first time that sense of security. Like my man had my back and together, we could literally build a future for ourselves through hard work and giggles.

Now, I would like to say it was all giggles but it was tough. A lot of hard questions, even harder answers, finding resolution when we didn’t agree and vowing to do it all over again the next day and the next. I wish I could say it has all been unicorns and ice cream but it hasn’t. But our commitment to each other gets stronger by the day.

Now that we have crossed the threshold and jumped the proverbial broom after weeks of planning, 2 ruined wedding dresses, 1 emergency overpriced dress- yeah that’s the one that made it down the aisle, 200 guests–75 uninvited but I digress that is the world of African weddings. The wedding seemed chaotic despite all the planning and micro-managing on my part. In the end, it was just another day. Some folks had the time of their lives, others left angry. Some portrayed me as the stressed out bride, apparently my RBF game was a bit too strong that day and it had to be addressed in front of all the guests, but I digress again….. Lord help me find my zen place or Woo-Sahhhhhh quickly. But despite all the fuck ups and mood roller coasters, we went home married, which was the point of the whole extravaganza after all.

A month later, things have calmed down, lessons learned such as don’t host a party in a country that you have no clue about and expect it to flow like all the other events you have coordinated over the years. And give up on making people happy. It is an impossible task and a lost battle. I learned to leave the miserable ones to themselves and keep on trucking.

It’s always good to reflect, learn and move forward. So my critical analysis of the past year finding love, committing to it and stepping into the future is – thank the good Lord 2018 has passed and now I can continue to work on building that empire. Stay tuned Chale, because 2019 is about to get interesting!
